Our Hero: Fiona
“I love Kids Runway for Research because I get to hang out with my friends. There is really cool stuff in the auction too and it’s fun to get dressed up too. This year, there will be games and that should be a lot of fun. Best of all, I get to find a cure for childhood cancer. Without a cure, some kids will die. And we need safer cures too.”
Fiona was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia, just 4 days after her 5th birthday. Her treatment consisted of daily chemotherapy for over two years, either orally, intravenously, or shots. She spent a lot of time going in and out of the hospital during the first year, due to treatment and infections. Fiona does suffer from late effects due to chemotherapy and steroids that she received but is thriving and is happy. She had a wonderful home-bound teacher from our school district for kindergarten and was able to attend school for 1st grade.
Now, 10 years old, Fiona looks forward to attending the 5th grade this September. She loves reading, ballet, and spending time with her friends. Fiona also enjoys being an ambassador for pediatric cancer survivors. She hopes that more awareness and funds for research will not only bring a cure, but a better cure for other kids.
